In celebration of Earth Day, the students of Meritorious Early Learning Center (MELC) engaged in a week-long activity aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preserving the environment. The activity, which began on April 19th, 2023, included various educational and practical sessions to encourage students to take action towards protecting the planet.
On Day 1 of the activity, students focused on recycling, where they learned about the importance of reducing waste and conserving resources. They also learned how to sort recyclable materials and created useful items from waste materials.
Day 2 was dedicated to watching videos about planet Earth and participating in Earth Minutes, where students pledged to reduce their carbon footprint by conserving energy and reducing waste. In addition, they learned how to make paper bags, an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags.
Day 3 of the activity was a hands-on experience, where students participated in class clean-up, watering plants, and trash hunting. This session highlighted the importance of keeping the environment clean and the benefits of planting and nurturing trees and plants.
Throughout the week-long activity, students learned the concept of the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, which is crucial to preserving the environment. They were also educated on the importance of saying no to plastic bags, which are harmful to the environment.
The activity concluded with the ‘Five minutes to conserve energy’ initiative, where students were encouraged to switch off the school’s electricity for five minutes to learn the importance of saving energy and different ways of conservation.
The week-long activity marked a life-long learning experience for the students, who enjoyed participating in the various educational and practical sessions. The school administration also praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of teaching children at an early age about the significance of environmental protection.
Overall, MELC’s Earth Day activity served as a reminder that small actions can make a big difference in preserving the environment and creating a better place to live.
